Asavela Mntumni ( 1996 - )
Asavela joined Spier Arts Academy as a Ceramic Apprentice in 2017. She had the opportunity to intern at ceramic studios such as Vorster & Braye as well as the Clay Café in Hout Bay during her final year. Asavela consistently scored high marks in her quality and speed of ceramic production.
"Ceramic has shown me the importance of entrepreneurship and the value of job creation. I don't have to work for others, but I can live my dream in my own business and give unemployed people a chance to work in the industry."
Asavela enjoys engaging the challenges that ceramic brings as the medium demands that you are able to overcome disappointment and that you stay up to date with new materials and techniques for ceramic. She loves that ceramic is integrated into everyday life, from kitchens to bathrooms.
