Sbusiso Mboshana (1993 -)
SBU was born in Maclear in the Eastern Cape, before movign to Cape Town and joining Spier Arts Academy as a Mosaic Apprentice in 2015.
“Creating mosaic has thought me that nothing comes easy, everything in life requires a level of hard work, endurance and selflessness. From a young age I was inspired by my grandmother and aunt when together they would make traditional baskets, mats etc. Watching them spending hours and hours working, focussed on what they were doing inspired me to create.”
Sbu in collaboration with five other graduate mosaicist started a company name Ikamva Mosaic in 2017.
“To me the process of mosaic reflects beauty. It also reflects destruction. When I create a mosaic art piece, I use a hammer to break the material, just to juxtapose them back together again in a desired organisation to tell a story.
Through this process I seek to reinterpret my observations and reaction to the world around me”
