ARTISAN

Mario Peterson 2018 Graduate

Mario Peterson (1979 - )

Born and raised in Cape Town, Mario enrolled at Spier Arts Academy in 2018 as a Mosaic Apprentice. Mario describes mosaic as a type of art that helps him to focus and understand the value of patience.

Mario credits tuition in art history and mosaic theory as teaching him the language of the art world. “I can still remember the first 2 words I heard and learnt to say in mosaic was “fuga and andamento!”.

Apart from Mosaic, Mario is also a pastry chef and dreams to have a bakery full of mosaic where he can create a space for artisans to showcase their work. Mario is passionate about giving back to the community and empowering the younger generation with skills and knowledge.

“Mosaic also taught me the value of colours and to see the beauty of it, irrespective of the saturation or the shade or tone of colour. The colour needs each other to make and bring out the beauty of it. And so its in each of our lives together we make something beautiful.”
