Heinrich Joemath
Heinrich is a Cape Town based mosaicist currently working at Spier Arts Academy as the mosaic studio manager. He completed his studies as a Mosaic Artisan at Spier Arts Academy in 2015. Since graduating he has completed commissions in collaboration with Spier Arts Trust such as the Cirkel Pigeon logo (12m2) which was interpreted into a freestanding mosaic for COOP Head office, Denmark, 2016.
As the Spier Arts Academy studio manager, he plans and manages a team of apprentices, who translates artists’ concepts into large scale mosaics.
“To be able to create a large-scale mosaic is a privilege. The exciting part is knowing it’s made by us, South Africans, and shared with the world when they are packaged and shipped off to Australia, Canada, England etc. The greatest reward is when you get to see a fellow South African marvel at your hard work, on your door step. This feeling makes me the happiest and a proud ambassador of mosaics in South Africa.”
Heinrich continues to immerse himself in the growing contemporary styles of mosaic while keeping true to the artists concept and the fundamentals of mosaic. He still sees himself as a student of the skillset, learning new and innovative techniques to grow the local skill and its various commercial and artist possibilities.
